THE YEAR AT STANDARD

2024 Highlights From Around the World and Across Our Businesses

2024 in Review

As we head into the end of 2024, we wanted to reflect on and celebrate the progress we’ve made together this past year at Standard. Below, you can scroll through a selection of highlights from across the company, which collectively illustrate the depth and breadth of what we have achieved together.

This year, we embarked on a series of ambitious new projects. At GAF, we began laying the groundwork for SAP implementation and announced our first new residential plant in more than two decades, in Newton, Kansas. Meanwhile, SGI unveiled plans to increase capacity at its Annapolis site to support Newton and overall customer demand. We marked exciting new beginnings, most notably in the integration of GAF Energy and GAF, which brings together the technical and product expertise of GAF Energy and the world-class sales team of GAF. And we made broad strides in continuous improvement and digital transformation, particularly at Grace and BMI.

These are just a few of the initiatives and accomplishments that have defined 2024, and none of them would have happened without you. Our single greatest asset is and always will be our people—and more than any milestone or metric we’ve achieved this year, we are proudest of all of you, who made them possible. Thank you for your dedication, for your tireless and skillful work, and for choosing to continue building your careers with Standard.

We wish you and your families a very happy (and very restful) holiday season. And we are excited to get back to work with you in the new year. There is much more to do together, and we feel incredibly fortunate every day to be doing it with all of you.

All the best,

David and David

Outstanding Leaders Across Our Businesses Complete Fourth Cohort of Standard Leadership Program

Across all of our businesses, we have incredible talent and expertise. A key hallmark of talent development at Standard is the Standard Leadership Program (SLP), which completed its fourth cohort in November.

The nine-month program for high-potential executives across the enterprise aims to strengthen leadership effectiveness and cross-company collaboration and to equip leaders with the skills necessary to navigate future business challenges and opportunities.

This year’s cohort convened for two intensive multi-day in-person forums—in New York in July and London in November—which included expert-led workshops, guest speakers, and activities centered around critical thinking, communications and leadership skills, and the strategic development of teams and talent. In-person forums were complemented by personalized individual coaching throughout the year.

“SLP provides participants with a great combination of being able to learn about yourself and your development opportunities while providing access to senior leaders and outside experts,” said Janine Dymala, HR Director, Global Supply Chain, BMI. “Bringing together leaders from across Standard’s different entities, who represented different countries, cultures and roles and responsibilities and who faced many different challenges, while sometimes quite similar, was a valuable reminder that we are part of something bigger.”

Over the course of the year, each participant is also tasked with identifying and making  recommendations related to a “Strategic Opportunity” that supports one of Standard Industries’ overall strategic priorities: Technology & Innovation; Connection & Collaboration; and Community & Global Impact.

“The lessons on strategic thinking and adaptive leadership gave me a framework to approach complex challenges, both within my business and in fostering cross-organizational collaboration,” said Charles Yawson, VP, Business Development and Partner Programs, GAF Energy. “A standout takeaway for me was the chance to connect with colleagues across the broader Standard Industries enterprise. The diversity of perspectives and experiences not only deepened my understanding of our collective mission, but also sparked ideas for collaboration that I hadn’t previously considered.”

“Beyond the academic and strategic insights, the program also fostered genuine, meaningful relationships that will continue to strengthen the fabric of Standard Industries for years to come,” said Glenn Woolwine, VP Sales – Steep Slope – Central & Canada, GAF.  “These connections and shared experiences will help drive our success and innovation as we move forward.”

Since its inception in 2020, nearly 100 employees across Standard and the operating companies have participated in SLP. Congratulations to the 2024 cohort on completing the program!

Standard's Digital and Legal Teams Host Cross-Company Summits

In 2024, teams put increased emphasis on collaboration within and across our businesses. We saw this in many ways – two of which included our Digital Manufacturing and Supply Chain teams and our Legal team.

Digital Team Hosts Manufacturing and Supply Chain Summits

Throughout the year, the Standard Digital team convened groups of manufacturing and supply chain leaders from across the enterprise to identify common challenges and discuss digital solutions and strategies.

In early 2024, manufacturing leaders from BMI, GAF, Grace and GAF Energy came together at a two-day off-site in Boston, Massachusetts, to discuss digital transformation strategies, address organizational challenges, and delve into Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) technology solutions. The group recently came together again for an end-of-year summit to align on 2025 priorities and create a collective blueprint for “Manufacturing 2030,” the future of manufacturing across Standard Industries.

Supply Chain leaders from BMI, GAF, GAF Energy, Grace, SGI, and Standard Logistics also gathered this year for two days in Standard’s New York office. The group discussed common supply chain challenges and solutions, outlined their agenda for the year, and gathered insights from external experts within the manufacturing industry, including Supply Chain analysts and entrepreneurs.

These events laid the groundwork for ongoing collaboration across Standard Industries, driving continuous value and innovation within the Standard ecosystem.

Legal Team Convenes for First-Ever Global Summit

This spring, Legal teams from across Standard Industries came together for the first cross-company Legal Summit, a three-day event that gave the team the opportunity to forge connections, foster collaboration and explore ways in which they could better meet the needs of the businesses.

The theme of the Summit was “Be a Part of It,” chosen to highlight Legal’s role in the organization as engaged partners across functions and OpCos, and to emphasize the importance of seizing the opportunities that the three-day event presented.

Over the course of the Summit, attendees got to know their colleagues, develop a deeper understanding of the businesses they support and discuss areas of opportunity for collaboration and partnership.

“We all came away energized by the collective spirit and abilities we witnessed across the group, with new and strengthened connections which we committed to build through continued communication and partnership,” said Rachel Engelstein, SVP, Chief Litigation and Compliance Counsel, Standard Industries. “Most importantly, we all recognized the importance of continuing to ‘be a part of it’ as we look to help our companies grow and thrive.”

Standard Commits $1 Million to Support SGI Tornado Recovery

After a tornado touched down in Annapolis, Missouri, local SGI team members stepped up to support their community, providing their time, resources and equipment to assist with local clean-up efforts.

As a demonstration of SGI and Standard’s commitment to the Annapolis community, Standard Industries committed $1 million to support rebuilding and long-term recovery efforts in the town. A large portion of the donation supported the South Iron School–a K-12 school, and the cornerstone of the community–which was severely damaged by the storm.

“Annapolis benefits from being a tight-knit community where people know one another and support each other in tough moments,” said Justin Dunlap, President, SGI. “I am proud of our Annapolis team for keeping employees safe and for the selflessness they demonstrated as they helped their community in the aftermath of the tornado.”

GAF Protects What Matters Most Facing Back-to-Back Hurricanes

In the fall, the southeastern United States was hit by two major hurricanes–Helene and Milton–in a span of two weeks. GAF employees met the moment by helping their colleagues and communities prepare for and recover from the storms.

GAF provided more than 500 employees with grants through the GAF Cares Relief Fund, and more than 15 truckloads of supplies were donated to impacted customers, communities and employees.

With the help of many employees across Procurement, Operations, and Standard Logistics, GAF’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team led efforts to acquire, stage, and deliver essential supplies such as generators, food, and water, and ensured every employee had access to GAF’s employee assistance funds for immediate needs following the storms across Georgia and Florida.

GAF’s HR teams reached every employee to confirm their safety, and Operations leaders from across the company jumped in to help to restart its plants in Valdosta, Statesboro, and Savannah, Georgia, as well as Tampa, Florida.
And in lieu of their ribbon-cutting ceremony, the team in Valdosta packed 51,000 meals for those in need, sourced air mattresses and made space available for colleagues who needed a place for evacuation, and prepped additional supplies sent to support the team in Tampa.

“Protecting what matters most is not just a brand slogan…it’s what defines us…it’s how we come together,” said John Altmeyer, CEO, GAF. “I am proud of how GAF comes together to step up and help.”
